PLUMP DJs bring the Breaks this Saturday
Emerging from the nascent Nu Skool Breaks scene at the end of the last century, the Plump DJs are the quintessential production duo. Over the course of twenty acclaimed singles and four superlative albums, Andy Gardner and Lee Rous have become heavyweights of cutting edge club music.
The duo's first record release was a 1999 double single ‘Plump Chunks/Electric Disco’ on Finger Lickin' Records. The next year, they released their first album A Plump Night Out on Finger Lickin' and Nettwerk and its singles ‘The Push/Remember My Name’. The album stayed in the top position of DJ magazine breakbeats chart for three weeks.
They released their second artist album, ‘Eargasm’, in July 2003. It featured collaborations with Gary Numan, Eddie Bo and Louise Robinson (Formally Rhodes) of Lamb. Following the release of Eargasm, they established a quarterly night club night of the same name at Fabric in London after the popularity of their FabricLive mix CD. In July 2005 they released ‘Saturday Night Lotion’. It is considered their third artist album, due to the sheer number of original productions included on it. Soon after the release of Saturday Night Lotion, they were called upon to precide over the mixing duties of Mixmag's 'Breakbeat Annual 2005' which was to be included in their upcoming November issue.
In June last year they duo released their fourth and most highly anticipated album ‘Headthrash’. The first single to come from the album was ‘System Addict’, a beast of beats and churning bass with a distinctive central mantra: “Automatic, System Addict”. This fast became a dance-floor smash and went on to win ‘Best Single of The Year’ Breakspoll. As the year went on tracks like ‘Snake Eyes’, ‘Rocket Soul’ and ‘Beat Myself Up’ were released and went on to have more major success. Plump DJs are one of the few breakbeat acts to have songs that have broken in to mainstream radio programs.
Plump DJs play at Red Rooms this Saturday 4th April and will be joined by local Breaks DJ Jonny Boy (Decks & EFX) with support coming from Red Rooms residents Tonisi, Paco & DaCosta. Doors open at 9pm. No Effort - No Entry. For more on Plump DJs visit them at www.myspace.com/plumpdjs.

DUSTY KID Ready to Rock the Rooms!!!
DUSTY KID [aka Paolo Alberto Lodde] showed his natural attitude for the music world at a young age. At 10, after just one year of private lessons of the basic notions of piano and violin, he was admitted directly to the 6th year of a piano course in the conservatory of his native city. Following the accademic experience, his tasks moved gradually from the austere classical world to the electronic system.
DUSTY KID started to manipulate synthesizers, samplers and sequencers, and he realized that one passion was growing and growing: the ardor for arranging and producing his own compositions. He released his first single 'I Found A Reason' at 19 on the English label Lowered Recordings, and then he produced various singles and remixes for Mutiny UK, Robbie Rivera and Trinity Hi-Fi. The first official single under the aegis of the pseudonym DUSTY KID was 'The Summer of Love'.
It was during 2004 that Dusty Kid created the project Duoteque with DJ Andrea Ferlin and released numerous EPs on Boxer Recordings and the tracks were immediately included in the DJ sets of some of the most important names, like Richie Hawtin, Tiefschwarz, Ricardo Villalobos, Domenic Eulberg, Sven Vath and Magda.
After the Duoteque experience Paolo decided to concentrate on his own productions as DUSTY KID.
His first release was the NEW ORDINAMENT EP on Motivo. In 2007 he also released on labels such as Kling Klong 'Signal '63 EP', Systematic 'Tsunamy'/'Milk', Boxer Recordings 'Anatome EP Vol.1' and Southern Fried Records 'The Cat' / 'The Kitten'. These tracks were all hugely supported by DJs all over the world and had huge success on the dance floors and in the charts.
In 2009 Paolo is currently touring the world, as well as doing remix’s for everyone from Armand Van Helden to Robbie Riveria and still finding time to work on his own album. Dusty Kid is both extremely busy and in demand which make this Saturdays date at Red Rooms all the more special. So whats in store for Red Rooms? What can we expect from a Dusty Kid Live Set?? In his own words…. “You can't restrict it in a genre! A sort of eclectic techno with influences from the 80's restrained with acid house and spiced with minimal?! in few words?! a big beat soup!”
Make sure and catch DUSTY KID this weekend at Red Rooms. Support comes from Red Rooms residents Tonisi, Paco & DaCosta. Doors open 9m and it’s advised to get there early as we are expecting a big crowd for this event. For more on DUSTY KID visit www.myspace.com/dustylittlekid

St. Patrick’s weekend at Red Rooms – Micky Slim & Laidback Luke
First up on Saturday Night is Micky Slim, the Birmingham-bred bad boy that is fast taking over the club scene. 2005 was the year clubbers started murmuring about that boy Slim, 2006 was the year they started shouting it from the hilltops, and 2007 – 2008 was the breakthrough years for Micky and in 2009 the sky is the limit for Micky.
Micky was the first DJ to grace the turntables at Red Rooms in 2009 and he blew the crowd away. Afterwards he couldn’t wait for the opportunity to come back and play Red Rooms and what better time than St. Patrick’s Weekend in Ireland. Micky has become hot property in the past few years from being resident in Godskitchen to headlining Global Gathering festival stages and playing alongside the likes of Erick Morillo, Chris Lake and James Zabiela to name a few.
2009 is set to be the big year for That Boy Slim! So make sure you catch him this weekend at Red Rooms for what is going to be the start of a major St. Paddy’s weekend Party. Admission is £3 / £ 6 early specials before 11pm..
On Monday 16th March (St. Patrick’s Eve) Red Rooms welcomes back Laidback Luke to Derry. Luke first played Red Rooms last June to a sell out crowd and tore the place apart. For many this was one of the Best Nights Ever in Derry and it was easy to see why. Luke had the crowd eating of his hands and the wait for him to come back is finally over. Luke has had massive success in this past year with his track BE which was a collaboration with Steve Angello. It was one of the dance floor hits in 2008 and is getting a re-release next week as it is so massive it refuses to go away, with new remixes and edits appearing on the internet every day. It’s no doubt Laidback Luke is going to be a huge night at Red Rooms on Monday so advice is to get there early to avoid disappointment. Doors open at 9pm on St. Patrick’s Eve and for further information on this night and all events at Red Rooms visit the website www.redroomsderry.co.uk
All events at Red Rooms are over 18s and Red Rooms supports the ‘Only 5 ID Initiative’. We would like to wish everyone a very Happy and Safe St. Patrick’s weekend.
