RADIO 1’s Dave Spoon at Red Rooms this weekend
As always the Red Rooms weekend starts on Thursday Night with POP MENTAL. Two Rooms of music led by Red Rooms resident DJs Paco & DaCosta in the main room playing you a mix of Chart, RnB, Dance, Indie and anything you can think off that will get you dancing. Admission is free before with drink promotions on the night.
This Saturday 25th April Red Rooms welcome back BBC Radio 1’s DAVE SPOON.
Dave Spoon is no stranger to Red Rooms or Derry as it was him who brought in 2009 at Red Rooms with his New Years Eve show at the club and what a night it was. Currently gearing up for Radio 1’s Big Weekend and a summer of residency’s In Ibiza, namely Cream in Amnesia and Space with Carl Cox, Dave is first of all coming back to Derry to get the summer started here first.
Simon Neale, aged 30 from Portsmouth, has been playing with electronic music for years. Nowadays using his 'Dave Spoon' alias he's firmly established himself as one of the hottest DJ/producers the scene has to offer, releasing top quality productions with his trademark groove and rocking dance floors across the globe.
Dave’s first track '21st Century' was signed to Toolroom Records by Mark Knight in 2004 and this was a key point for Spoon, an instant success it was supported by the likes of Pete Tong and Roger Sanchez. The piano led 'Sunrise EP' followed and was instantly signed to Seamus Haji's Big Love imprint. With a lot of buzz surrounding his releases, the remixes poured in with re-works for the hottest underground labels including Stealth, Cyber, Toolroom & Cr2.
In 2006, keen to push musical boundaries and break new sounds, Spoon released 'At Night' - a dance floor killer. Championed by everyone from Deep Dish to Tiesto, the track caused a stir on dancefloors. With an added vocal in 2007 from Lisa Maffia the track crossed over as 'Bad Girl (At Night)' on Universal, it was one of the biggest records last summer, earning Spoon his first top 40 hit.
2008 was the breakthrough year for Dave Spoon and what a breakthrough it was.
Having landed himself a show on Radio 1's 'In New DJs We Trust', writing his artist album and writing with the likes of Pete Tong last year also saw the release of the massive Summer hit 'Baditude' Spoon recorded with Paul Harris & Sam Obernik on Vocals. A Chart and Dance floor smash this raised Spoon's profile to a new level and a new Audience. Spoon also released a Tool Room Knights compilation in 2008. Dave also launched his own label Televizion and it’s first release - Tong & Spoon ‘GAS FACE’.
He also wrote the title music for the film "Beyond The Rave" even remixed Madonna (both with Pete Tong).
2009 has continued to be successful for Dave. His label TELEVIZION has launched a bi-monthly residency at Manchester’s Sankeys Club, and between his Radio 1 show and touring to every corner of the world Dave is a very busy DJ. Dave always plays a blinder at Red Rooms and this weekend will be no different, in fact it will be better. Doors open at 9pm. Admission is £5 / £7 with Early Specials. This is an over 18s event and Red Rooms operate the 5-ID Initative.

DJ Paco Leaving :( New Resident DJ Needed :)
You may or may not know that one of our Resident DJs - DJ Paco is sadly leaving Red Rooms. Luckily for him he is leaving to go live, and find fame and fortune in Los Angeles, California. Meanwhile we will all be still here in rainy cold Derry.
Paco will definately be missed at Red Rooms and we would like to wish him all the very best and not forget us when he's rich and famous. Paco has been a superb DJ at Red Rooms and Thursday Nights Pop Mental will not be the same without him.
So this therefore leaves a void in Red Rooms DJ Line up. We are now on the search for someone to take over from Paco and Join Tonisi & DaCosta as Red Rooms resident DJs. This is an excellent opportunity for an upcoming DJ to get a residency at Derry's #1 Club! If you think you have got what it takes and bags of personality to match then contact Tony at 078 0163 3595 or email tony@theedgederry.com

They were then drafted in by the countries national radio station 2fm to do regular guest mixes for their dance shows and also appear as dance music critics on Mr. Springs show "The Firing Squad", all this before they were even 21.
Having played a lot of the major clubs, opened up there own pirate radio station called "Access Fm" and promoted club nights, their passion for Dance music never stopped.
At present Timmy & Tommy are involved with fellow Letterkenny man John Rainey in maintaining the popular Dance music discussion forum DanceMusicIreland.com. The website is based around the dance music scene in Ireland and is a place where like minded people can discuss events, new music and culture. In 2008 Timmy & Tommy along with DMI's John Rainey set up there own record label called Full Tilt Recordings. On Saturday night Red Rooms are pleased to welcome International DJ Tom Gandey aka CAGEDBABY. Tom has many guises but is most known for his seminal 2006 Album ‘Will See You Now’ released on Southern Fried Records. This was Post punk disco Psychedelia at its finest. Think acid-house superhero meets New Romantic. Neil Tennant meets Fatboy Slim. Influenced by everything from Talking Heads to Toto it’s music that pops out of the speaker with a martini in its hand. But why the name Cagedbaby? In his own words… “Either it’s something to do with being linked to the earth, chained to Mother Nature by an unseen umbilical chord. Or I chose it because my releases would end up being next to the Chemical Brothers in the racks at HMV.”
Gandey’s wide musical influence shows in his unique productions, earning him a call from the Chemical Brothers to support them on their world tour and also playing everywhere from the Big Day Out with Soulwax and LCD, to the Fuji Rock Festival with the Presets and the main stage at Creamfields to wide acclaim. Along side the live shows, Cagedbaby’s DJ sets became stuff of legend. Happily embracing technology Tom was one of the first to use Ableton to its full potential giving him an early lead and signature style to his explosive DJ sets, always impeccably sequenced, layering up to 5 tracks at a time, crafting pace and systematically delivering monstrous builds, spaced out chordal drops and hair raising peaks noisily exploring techno, electro, new rave and even breaks busting genres.
A real exciting DJ Cagedbaby is a must for you party calendar this Saturday 18th April. Doors open 9pm admission is £5 / £7 and its advised to get there early. For more info on Cagedbaby visit www.myspace.com/cagedbaby and for more information on all events at Red Rooms visit www.redroomsderry.co.uk
